Responsible conference

This is how we create responsible environments with consideration for the environment. At Hotel Svendborg we focus on our responsibility towards the world around us. We continuously work with environmental considerations and conscious choices in connection with planning and running conferences and events.

Energy and environmental considerations

A hotel with consideration for the environment

At Hotel Svendborg, we focus on making responsible choices when we build, renovate and operate the hotel. We are continuously working on solutions that take the environment and resource consumption into account. In our latest extension in 2020, the roof of the new entrance was established as a moss-sedum roof. The living roof helps to delay the drainage of rainwater during heavy rain and at the same time contributes to a more stable indoor climate by reducing heat accumulation in the summer. The moss-sedum roof can also bind CO₂ and collect particles from rainwater. As part of our energy focus, we have replaced the lighting in the hotel's approx. 10,000 m² with LED bulbs, which contributes to lower energy consumption. Hotel Svendborg is certified with the Green Key eco-label, an international eco-labelling scheme for the tourism and experience industry. The scheme sets requirements within, among other things, energy, water, waste, cleaning, food, indoor climate and staff and is continuously monitored by an independent jury. In the rooms we use Nordic Ecolabelled linen and towels as part of our focus on responsible purchasing. Read more about Green Key at green-key.dk.

Food with consideration for raw materials and resources

At Hotel Svendborg, we focus on responsible choices in our kitchen and restaurant. We strive to use local and Danish-produced food wherever possible, thereby limiting unnecessary transport. At the same time, we work daily to reduce food waste and ensure that excess food is handled responsibly. We collaborate with local suppliers and use eggs from Ringe, rhubarb from our own garden and local beers, which are served in our restaurant. We also work with alternative wines as a supplement to overseas drinks. Whenever possible, we use Danish-produced fruit and vegetables, and we always offer alternatives to meat dishes on the menu. To limit food waste, portioned dishes are served from the buffet, and food waste is collected and converted into biomass. Excess food from the breakfast buffet is offered every weekday via Too Good To Go, so that the food is used instead of going to waste. We also have our own herb garden, which supplies the kitchen with fresh herbs. As part of our efforts, the kitchen has been awarded the Organic Food Label in bronze, which means that a minimum of 25% of our ingredients are organic. We are continuously working to increase this proportion.
